Just a few weeks until the Meta conference starts✴ Connect is scheduled to be released on September 23, and images posted by UploadVR purportedly reveal the design of the Meta augmented reality headset✴ Phoenix Project. According to the publication, the images are “Found in the HorizonOS firmware package for diopter lenses”.

Leaked images show the device sitting somewhere between large headphones and smart glasses, with lenses built into a thin frame reminiscent of regular glasses. Photos taken from the back show a wire coming out of one of the arms; it could be connected to an external battery pack or computing module. The arms also appear to have cameras that point outward and downward.
The proposed design shows that Meta✴ Intended to compete with devices like Xreal or Viture’s glasses. Mixed reality glasses from these manufacturers are larger than Meta smart glasses✴ Ray-Ban AI, but more compact and simpler than established VR headsets like the Meta✴ Task 3.
Development on Project Phoenix has been underway for some time, but the device isn’t expected to hit the market until next year. Google is also developing a similar project, Project Aura XR glasses, which involves the use of external computing modules connected to the frames through wires.
