Critics’ expectations have been tempered after the preview of Marvel’s The Wolverine was released, with one of the main topics discussed online being the obsessive scent-hunting mechanic.
Players nicknamed the blue glowing lines leading to the goal “gas trails” because the gameplay was too simplistic and similar to normal handheld controls (the original gameplay was actually guided by hands).
Insomniac Games PR Director James Stevenson responded to the criticism on social media, clarifying that this UI element is not always active and is a direct reflection of Logan’s classic mutant abilities. According to him, this trail only appears when the story is pursuing a specific goal, or when the hero gets close enough to the collectible to capture its scent or sound.
