On September 12, the United States celebrates National Video Game Day. It’s an informal holiday that celebrates gaming as a whole and the culture that’s formed around it. Big game companies and communities often congratulate their audiences on this day, but Xbox has never seen this before. This year, however, Microsoft is turning its attention to the holiday.
On the official Xbox social network Appeared Congratulations to gamers on National Video Game Day. The Microsoft team thanked the audience: “Thank you for playing with us for generations.”. The post was accompanied by a picture (below) that included discs for various generations of Xbox.
The history of National Video Game Day dates back to 1991, when Video Game Day appeared on the US catalog Chase’s calendar of events. It was originally celebrated on July 8, but the date changed several times. Since 1997, National Video Game Day has been celebrated on September 12th.
