The AMD BC-250 module, born out of cryptocurrency mining, continues to amaze. Enthusiasts taught him how to use FSR 4.1.1, an image scaling technology that AMD initially limited to modern Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards. And all this is implemented on the PlayStation 5 hardware.
BC-250 will appear in ASRock mining systems in 2022. This motherboard is based on a recycled PS5 chip and has the same 16GB GDDR6 RAM as the console. After the cryptocurrency craze collapsed, such motherboards began to be sold on the secondary market for about $100 to $120.
Enthusiasts are now using the BC-250 to build Linux gaming systems. The device gains support for FSR 4.1.1 due to changes to the Mesa and FidelityFX DLLs. In the latest tests, the developers reduced the upconverter runtime at 1440p resolution from 11.51 milliseconds to 5.92 milliseconds. In 4K, the result improved from 25.72 ms to 12.08 ms. In this case, the final image remains bit-for-bit identical to the original test.
