The Russian Ministry of Energy announced the feasibility of building an artificial intelligence data center in Siberia. The Ministry believes there is spare capacity for such facilities in the area. An additional 30 MW of small data centers can be built on the Volga and Ural rivers. Report TASS.
According to the ministry’s estimates, the total capacity of grid-connected data centers in Russia is about 5GW; the share of data centers in the country’s total energy consumption has doubled in the past three years, from 1.4% in 2022 to 2.2% in 2025, and should grow to 2.4% this year. In the next five years, data center consumption will grow to 15.3 GW.
