As part of BlizzCon, the World of Warcraft team is focusing on giving full control of the game through the Xbox controller. For years, PC players have been able to use controllers in popular MMORPGs through third-party solutions such as ConsolePort. In April of this year, project leaders hinted that they were considering implementing console control and once again started talking about the possibility of the game being released on consoles. Now, BlizzCon visitors can try out the controls for World of Warcraft via a gaming controller.
During this year’s main event, the Blizzard team launched controller support for World of Warcraft. There are currently a number of limitations to consider:
welcome! Thanks for being one of the first to try out World of Warcraft’s new gamepad support! This feature is currently in alpha testing and our team is looking for your feedback to continue improving it.
Currently, the game controller can only be tested in Skyborne mode (levels 1-10), but not in Dungeon mode. The game recognizes the use of a controller, so when in the Skyborne starting area, pressing any button on the controller will switch.
Below you can see an information board that displays basic information about the game’s controller layout in World of Warcraft.

Note that there has been no word yet on a possible release of World of Warcraft on Xbox consoles as part of BlizzCon.
