At BlizzCon, CD Projekt Red and Blizzard Entertainment celebrated Battle.net’s 30th anniversary panel and revealed a full collaboration. The sci-fi epic “Cyberpunk 2077” will be released on Blizzard’s distribution platform in 2026 together with the “Phantom Liberty” expansion pack and released as the Ultimate Edition. However, the cooperation between the two parties is not limited to pure distribution, and joint content will be included in Blizzard’s product portfolio starting in 2027. Hero shooter Brawler is receiving a special adaptation for Cyberpunk: Edgewalker, while action role-playing game Diablo IV is being expanded to include content from the Witcher world.
Following the planned launch of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered”, “Cyberpunk 2077”, which will be released on the platform, will also be launched on the PC launcher on September 29. Players who pre-order the Song of the Past expansion, which will be released in 2027, or purchase it after launch, will be rewarded with an exclusive Barbarian skin in the style of Geralt, the witcher in Diablo IV. Blizzard also plans to provide the action role-playing game with more content links to popular fantasy brands in 2027.
In the case of hero-shooter Battlefield, Blizzard is directly tying its gaming universe to the successful animated adaptation Cyberpunk: Edge Runner and its second season, which will begin on the streaming service Netflix on October 20.
The gradual opening of internal infrastructure for third-party integration marks a historic and major shift in Blizzard Entertainment’s long-term direction and strategy. For decades, the platform was reserved exclusively for private brands like Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. Through the opening, the traditional launcher is gradually transforming into a wider store positioning itself in the highly competitive PC market.
For Polish studio CD Projekt Red, this distribution pipeline gives them access to an affluent community of millions of people outside of established ecosystems like Steam, GOG or common console platforms. With this initiative, both industry giants underline their clear desire for long-term cross-fertilization effects between global drivers. The interplay between platform exclusivity, early purchase incentives and content crossover in the field of live streaming services shows how modern publisher alliances will be built in the future to connect player communities with their own cross-product ecosystems.
