Blizzard Entertainment opened a new chapter for the hero shooter “Strike” at BlizzCon. With the 54th Hero Doctrine, the squad gains a vampire support character. Season 5 also brings the freight map “Watchpoint: Grímsvötn” and overhauls to Roadhog and Sombra – the latter permanently switching from a damage role to a support role.
As part of BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment has announced a slew of content updates for hero shooter Brawler, marking the start of Season 5, which begins in October. The central element of the demo was the reveal of Hero 54, named Doctrine, a support character who specializes in stealing lives and has close ties to the rival faction Talon in lore.
In addition to the new heroes, the development team also unveiled a fresh cargo map, Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, set in the Icelandic volcanic prison.
The new support hero doctrine relies on a dark vampire theme both visually and mechanically. His skill set combines direct-damaging scepter attacks with life-stealing mechanics and bat-like drones that provide shield stats to allies and drain the maximum health of enemy heroes. For interim testing, Doctrine can conduct a three-day weekend of testing immediately following the opening ceremony. In terms of lore, his release from the Icelandic high-security prison “Watchpoint: Grimsvåtern” triggered the conclusion of the year-long storyline “Reign of the Claw”.
Along with rolling out new content, Blizzard is addressing two ongoing hero balance issues. After many tweaks in the past, Sombra is being fundamentally repositioned. To reduce the frustration of stealth hacks, developers are removing damage-focused “virus” abilities. Instead, Sombra gains a new ability, “Cyberspace,” which projects an energy field that heals allies and temporarily weakens enemy damage and incoming healing. While her primary weapon retains its offensive nature and reduces dispersion, Sombra’s primary mission becomes mobile support of her own team.
The battle mode of the veteran oil tanker “Road Fighter” has also been extensively adjusted. The infamous combination of tow hook and instant kill can be defused by increasing the distance to the towed target. To replace the alternate shooting mode, the team introduced a trash compactor feature. This allows Roadhog to absorb incoming projectiles and fire them at enemy units in the form of highly explosive waste balls. The purpose of this addition is to make the character more integrated into his team’s frontline activities.
Season 5 will begin on October 6, 2026 on all available platforms. Blizzard has announced the next Strike Force Spotlight event for spring 2027, which will include the future roadmap and the reveal of Heroes 55.
