Samsung Display and iQOO held a joint press conference to showcase the new M16 OLED panel. Its main advantage is the incredible peak brightness of 10,000 nits. Of course, we’re talking about a small portion of the display and not full screen brightness, but this is still a very impressive metric that surpasses all other solutions on the market. Brightness is claimed to be up to 2800 nits for the entire screen surface, and around 1100 nits in normal manual mode.
The first smartphone to use this new material will be the iQOO 16. It will feature a 6.85-inch AMOLED display with 2K resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate – a combination that manufacturers rarely try to integrate into a mobile device. For comparison, the previous iQOO 15 was limited to 144Hz.
The panel also features LEAD 2.0 technology, which has no traditional polarizer and consumes approximately 30% less power than previous solutions. Claims include an expanded color gamut and improved backlight uniformity.
