The start of Season 15 of action role-playing game Diablo IV (titled Hell’s Legacy) has been marred by severe server technical issues. On its original release date of September 15, 2026, critical authentication errors and login blocks meant that thousands of players on PC, consoles, and the newly supported Nintendo Switch 2 were unable to access the game. Developer Blizzard Entertainment later responded by briefly delaying the start of the season to address infrastructure outages in the backend. The studio has now given the all-clear and officially completed the release, but in order not to endanger server stability again, some features such as Solo Self-Found mode are still temporarily closed.
The new content season, Legacy of Hell, ties in closely with the 30th anniversary of the entire Diablo series and brings a variety of nostalgic gameplay elements back to the world of Sanctuary. The core of the new season event is the “Wake Up Nightmare” event, which transfers the historical boss battles from the previous game into modern game systems. As part of the Special Missions series, players will encounter iconic series characters such as Horadrim scholar Deckard Cain as well as Archdemon Baal, Mephisto, and finally Diablo himself.
Additionally, key mechanics have been modified: Mythic item drop rates have once again been increased, while the re-rolling of Mythic items in the crafting system has been removed in order to reward targeted looting through dungeons.
The rocky start particularly affects buyers of the new Nintendo Switch 2 version, which launches at the same time as the seasonal patch. Due to the influx of users on the new platform, the authentication server crashed and error messages such as code 300008 appeared, which caused considerable criticism of the communication between developers and players.
Despite the teething issues, Blizzard sees this season as an important milestone in its long-term support of Diablo IV. Seasons of content-rich content like Legacy of Hell form the main foundation for the game’s future after the studio confirmed it would no longer be releasing any more major purchase add-ons following the upcoming Amazon course to bring together Diablo V’s capacity.
