Publisher Spaghetti Cat and independent developer Sergei Bolshakov have launched a public beta of Midnight Souls, a 2D adventure role-playing game coming to PC via Steam. The beta will run until September 22nd and will provide players with approximately an hour of introductory chapter content.
The plot of “Midnight Soul” tells the story of a teenager who travels to the provincial town of Chamomile Hill to meet a girl he met online. What starts as a simple date quickly takes a dark turn when the hero becomes embroiled in the city’s secrets. The story also touches on themes of dealing with fear and self-doubt, interacting with locals, and caring for a cat named Charlie.
within test Players have access to the world with story-based exploration, dialogue, a day-night cycle, mini-games, and a progression system based on finding certain items. You can explore about six locations and interact with more than a dozen characters. There’s also an inventory system and the ability to save games – automatically and manually.
Some dialogue and graphical elements are still temporary placeholders, but the visual design of the environments and characters is close to final. The beta version supports English and Russian and includes four original musical compositions.
The developers also deliberately included some mundane details in the game. Players can collect approximately 30 items, visit four merchants, and take advantage of a 0% interest savings account.
