This innovation is based on a practice that has existed on social network X for many years: users discuss stocks and, more recently, cryptocurrencies. The idea of cashtags (hashtags with a “$” sign in front of an asset code) emerged as early as 2008 with the Stocktwits platform – a mechanism that simplifies search and mentions of market discussions on Twitter (X was previously known as X). Initially, this feature was limited to discussions, and when the platform entered the financial sector through the X Money payment system, transaction issues arose.
Cash Tag now turns stock, ETF and cryptocurrency tickers into interactive elements, allowing platform users to trade the assets. X explains that when you click on a stock symbol, you’ll see live charts, discussions, and now the ability to trade through partners. To do this, you need to visit the partner’s website or mobile application, register there and log in to your account.
“Together with our Cash Tag partners, we connect discussions on financial topics with real action. People come to X to understand what is happening, participate in discussions and react in real time to events that matter to them. Our Cash Tag partners enable a seamless transition from searching for information and discussion to uninterrupted trading operations.”“, said Monique Pintarelli, Global Head of Advertising at SpaceXAI.
