This summer, Anthropic was believed to be available in late September or October. As the first month of fall draws to a close, The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the US startup will launch an IPO in November, in time to share third-quarter financial results.

as mentioned before sourceconsultants involved in its preparations recommend choosing such a period for the company’s IPO. By distributing its third-quarter financial report to investors, Anthropic will confirm the competitiveness of its artificial intelligence models in light of the strong competitor solutions recently announced by OpenAI’s Astra.

Some people familiar with the matter emphasized that Anthropic chose November as its IPO window even before public debate began about the need to slow down the development of artificial intelligence to ensure safety. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei was one of the first industry representatives to express a commitment not only to curb the pace of new artificial intelligence model releases, but also to organize independent audits of their development. As the sources pointed out, in this sense, even November cannot be considered as the final date for the upcoming IPO. Rival OpenAI also filed for an initial public offering in the United States in the first half of this year, but the startup’s management recently confirmed that it will not hold an IPO this year.

Anthropic’s IPO would break two records set in June by rival SpaceX, whose subsidiary xAI also develops artificial intelligence models. First, Anthropic plans to raise approximately $100 billion through its IPO. Secondly, its capital size is estimated to be US$2 trillion. Anthropic will meet with investors in the coming days to gauge their willingness to invest its capital. Many analysts insist that the slowdown in artificial intelligence development will not severely impact Anthropic’s revenue because the company can make a lot of money on existing models. Some investors are convinced Anthropic will hit $110 billion in annualized revenue by the end of this year and hit the $100 billion milestone sooner. They support the move to set industry safety standards and believe this should not dampen interest in IPOs. Once Anthropic goes public, it will come under greater scrutiny from investors, so it would be wiser to be proactive about its stance on AI safety.

But investors are concerned about rival OpenAI’s fundraising activities. Last time, it managed to attract $120 billion; even before entering the stock exchange, the startup’s capital could reach $1.2 trillion. If OpenAI continues to attract a similar amount of investor funding this year, some of that funding may be redirected, resulting in Anthropic losing some financial support.

Some of Anthropic’s shareholders and investors held a meeting at its headquarters last Thursday, but there was little discussion of an IPO. Instead, the startup talks about its new developments that help control physical devices like electron microscopes or robotic manipulators. Later that day, the venture capitalists sat down for dinner to discuss Anthropic’s CEO’s recent warnings about slowing down artificial intelligence and the implications of those comments. In addition, attendees asked Anthropic representatives what criteria could be used to determine that a startup has developed so-called “strong” artificial intelligence that is comparable to human intelligence.

Published by The New York Times ConfirmIt is expected that Anthropic’s annual revenue may exceed $100 billion by the end of this year, while recalling that number reached $65 billion at the end of July and barely exceeded the $9 billion mark at the end of last year. Previously, Reuters reported that Anthropic would begin actively preparing for an IPO in mid-October, hoping to hold the IPO before the U.S. midterm elections scheduled for November.
