Although OpenAI is in no rush to go public this year due to the hype surrounding the safety of artificial intelligence, the company has regularly provided investors with information about its plans and financial performance. The new part of the data states that OpenAI will “lose” $278 billion from 2026 to 2030 (inclusive) without intending to significantly slow down the development of computing infrastructure.

Similar information has been shared financial timesclearly stating that OpenAI’s negative cash flow will reach $278 billion between 2026 and 2030. Meanwhile, the startup’s revenue will grow nearly tenfold during the same time frame, from $3.6 billion to $350 billion. In fact, the company’s revenue will not cover its expenses for the period, as the latter will be nearly $280 billion more than the former. Meanwhile, OpenAI projects total revenue of $840 billion.

As you know, OpenAI is preparing for its next funding round to increase its capital from $852 billion to $1.2 trillion, even before its planned IPO next year. Investors willing to invest in fast-growing startups will obviously have to be patient while waiting for financial returns, since they are unlikely to count on them during the current decade. OpenAI plans to spend approximately $856 billion by the end of 2030 to meet the needs of developing computing infrastructure.

The $122 billion it raised in March will only last until 2028, according to a presentation to investors, so OpenAI organized a new funding round even before it entered the IPO. In addition to building and leasing data centers, the company must spend significant amounts of money to train and develop its artificial intelligence models. At the same time, competition has forced it to lower the cost for customers to obtain this information, making it difficult for it to quickly increase subscription profits. However, the release of more productive AI models has clearly bolstered OpenAI’s confidence in its capabilities, as in May it predicted that negative cash flow would increase to $305 billion by the end of the decade. OpenAI now expects its revenue and expense balance to improve by 2030, judging from the reduction to $278 billion in the new presentation to investors.

Its competitor Anthropic has not given up its intention to conduct an IPO before the end of this year, and current information on its timing points to November. Seeking to surpass SpaceX’s achievement in June, the artificial intelligence startup expects to raise at least $100 billion in its stock exchange debut, valuing its capital at $2 trillion. If OpenAI can attract investor funds in a new round of financing, its capital will grow to $1.2 trillion this year.
