However, Anthropic itself cannot harm its reputation by rushing to release new AI models without ensuring their safety, especially after CEO Dario Amodei recently proactively slowed the pace of market development to improve public safety.
At the same time, market participants are also facing pressure from investors on the payback period of investments in the artificial intelligence industry, as rising loan interest rates make waiting for the payback period more difficult. At the same time, China’s development is increasingly competing with that of the United States, which is rapidly closing the gap with China and offering more flexible payment models and the integration of artificial intelligence systems into business processes and customer infrastructure. In the current situation, it is important for Anthropic to show that it does not lose control of the competition, but at the same time does not neglect security, while creating the prerequisites for a more successful monetization of its developments.
Historically, Anthropic has had a stronger position in the enterprise market, but OpenAI has refocused its business to accelerate monetization of its products with the support of enterprise customers. Launched in early September, the GPT-6 Astra series models have proven themselves in the fields of network security, software development and PC management. According to data from the Ramp platform, the Astra range manages to absorb up to 13% of corporate spending in this segment, while Anthropic and its Claude Fable can only satisfy 8%. According to Reuters, the Astra model also took the lead for the first time last week in terms of share of developer-generated traffic on OpenRouter.
Anthropic had annual revenue of $65 billion as of the end of July, and the company expects to grow that to $1.9 to $200 billion by 2028. OpenAI further looked ahead in its presentation to investors, projecting revenue to grow to $350 billion by the end of 2030, but didn’t hide the fact that it would continue to suffer heavy losses at this point. Investors are mentally prepared for the continuous change of leaders in the AI model market, because Google DeepMind and other market players will not succumb to Anthropic and OpenAI.
At the same time, the open weight or open source code model that Chinese developers are particularly actively promoting also poses a threat to the business models of Anthropic and OpenAI. In addition, they allow customers to develop artificial intelligence systems on their own computing resources without transmitting sensitive information to the cloud.
