YouTube channel Hardware unboxing and toast brothers A Radeon RX 9050 graphics card with 4 GB of memory was tested in the game. This is a streamlined version of the entry-level model in the RDNA 4 architecture-based graphics card series.

It’s worth noting that the Radeon RX 9050 4GB isn’t retailing as a standalone product yet. AMD only offers the 4GB version for OEM systems, so both channels had to purchase off-the-shelf desktops from CyberPowerPC to perform testing. The official retail version of RX 9050 comes with 8 GB of memory.

The 4 GB model retains the same GPU features as the 8 GB version – a graphics chip with 1024 stream processors and Boost frequencies up to 2.6 GHz. However, the configurations of the memory subsystems of these cards vary widely. The 4GB version uses a 64-bit memory bus and 18Gbps GDDR6 chip to provide 144GB/s bandwidth. The 8 GB model has double the numbers – a 128-bit bus and 288 GB/s bandwidth.

Reviews confirm that ASRock is not the only AMD partner producing the Radeon RX 9050 4GB. After opening the CyberPowerPC system unit, the Toasty Bros team discovered an XFX model with a cooling system equipped with two fans, an 8-pin power connector, two DisplayPort outputs, and an HDMI.

Hardware unboxing test results for 18 games demonstrate the impact of insufficient memory on performance. At 1080p resolution at low graphics settings, the Radeon RX 9050 4GB averaged 78 frames per second (FPS), with a 1% low target (minimum FPS) of 55 frames per second. For comparison, these values are 107 frames per second and 78 frames per second for the 8 GB memory version. As a result, the version with 8 GB of memory is 37% faster on average. Even at the lowest settings, the difference remains: 111 fps vs. 147 fps (about 32%). The Intel Arc B570 graphics card showed a result of 112 frames per second in the low settings test, which is about 44% higher than the Radeon RX 9050 4GB.

The Toasty Bros channel also shows how the GPU’s performance can be affected by other parts of the OEM system. Their PC is equipped with a Ryzen 5 5500 processor and only 8GB of DDR4 RAM when running in single-channel mode. Installing this card in a Ryzen 5 9600X-based system with 32GB of DDR5 RAM improved many metrics, and adding a second DDR4 module to the original PC removed some bottlenecks.

This means buyers should pay attention to video memory characteristics, as the eponymous Radeon RX 9050 comes in a 4 GB memory and 64-bit bus version, as well as an 8 GB memory and 128-bit bus version. So far, we haven’t seen a cut-price version of the Radeon RX 9050 available for public sale, but that could change.
