
Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 owners are tired of watching their processors throttle due to overall system limitations. Experiments to remove it have allowed us to significantly increase energy consumption, but with increased productivity come heat, noise and new causes of concern.
In an experiment, Reddit user Firm-Age4730 used the NvpwrControl utility, which allows you to unlock the power limits of some NVIDIA mobile graphics cards. In “Cyberpunk 2077”, the power of RTX 5090 reached 185 W, while the power of Intel Core Ultra 386H was 31 W. Previously, the power of the graphics card was around 160 W, which left the processor only around 13 W.

The experiment proved costly. Temperatures rose to 84 °C for the RTX 5090 and 95 °C for the processor. This is only 3 degrees and 5 degrees below the stated limits respectively. Since the VRM must also operate at significantly higher loads, other issues arise regarding notebook power systems.
At the same time, Freeze switches to “but the neighbors know you’re playing” mode. The CPU fan speed reaches about 6700 rpm and the GPU fan speed reaches about 6800 rpm. Therefore, 215 W can only be maintained for a long time at very favorable ambient temperatures. This model looks questionable for continued use, and the experiment itself is best left as an experiment.
