Resident Evil, the new horror film directed by Zack Craig, has achieved unprecedented success at the US box office. According to data from the authoritative analytical service CinemaScore, the film achieved the best score in the entire history of the series.
Audiences at its US premiere gave the film a B+. While this score is lower than last year’s A-grade Zach Cregger horror film “Barbarian,” it’s a very high score for the horror genre. By comparison, horror’s major box office phenomenon of 2026 – the film Behind the Scenes – got off to a B-grade start, but that didn’t stop it from grossing $402.4 million worldwide.
So far, the series’ best CinemaScore, according to viewers, is a B grade. At one point, only three films in the franchise reached this level: the original Resident Evil (2002), the sequels Apocalypse (2004), and The Final Chapter (2016).
