Studio Kojima Productions has issued an official statement denying recent reports from Bloomberg that PlayStation Corporation has allegedly cut funding for spy action game Physint due to a lack of sales and budget overruns on Death Stranding.
Executives called the claims baseless and stressed that the studio is in good financial shape, development of games and Xbox continues, and relationships with long-term partners remain strong.
Later, in an interview with IGN, Kojima admitted that Sony’s decision to refuse to fund the project came as a complete surprise to him, although he sympathized with the difficult situation of the entire gaming industry. “I’m still a big fan of Sony and I have no grudge against them, but I wanted to hear about this earlier,” the developer noted, adding that the reason for the disruption should be clarified with the Japanese company itself.
