Xbox Series X will be able to launch the first batch of games compiled for PlayStation 5 using the experimental PS5X emulator. The project is to open a port of the KytyPS5 emulator to the Microsoft console and run it through developer mode.
Currently, PS5X is capable of running GEX Trilogy, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Quake II. All of the games tested recognized Xbox controls, and some already had sounds. Quake II looks the best so far – in the demo, the game stayed in the roughly 25-45 FPS range, although performance may drop significantly.
The main technical issues are related to graphics. The PC version of KytyPS5 uses Vulkan, but Xbox Series X does not directly support this API. Therefore, the PS5X must translate graphics instructions into DirectX, which is why development of the PC version cannot simply be transferred to the console without additional adaptations.
