The recent layoffs at Microsoft have led to a strange thing happening within Halo Studios. An employee is promoted and then fired within the same week.
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios has ushered in the next phase of its restructuring, and in the process, many employees have once again been put on the streets. Halo Studios was particularly affected – a very strange incident occurred there.
This affects Halo Studios film director Josh Daniels — at least so far. Daniels has worked on various Xbox teams for 11 years, but ironically, he just got promoted this week. But his joy was short-lived as just one day later he was hit by a wave of layoffs and thrown onto the street.
Daniels said, “To be promoted and fired in the same week is a big deal. I’m one of the many people affected by layoffs at Halo Studios. I’ll be taking some time off today, but I’d love to hear from anyone who is looking for a director or producer on a film. If you think I might be a good fit, please feel free to contact me.”
Daniels has been working at Halo Studios since 2024. Prior to that, he worked on the Forza series at Turn 10 since 2015. Further development of the Halo series recently moved to Activision; the next major installment in the action series will be created there. As a result, Halo Studio itself will be significantly streamlined and will initially only continue to support existing Halo games.
