Fans of The Lord of the Rings can enjoy two of the best video games in the fantasy series on Nintendo Switch 2. Therefore, both Middle-earth games will soon be available on current Nintendo consoles.
If you’ve ever wanted to immerse yourself in the fantasy world of Middle-earth again, you’ll soon have the chance to do just that on the Nintendo Switch 2. Even better: two of the best video games in the series are coming to Nintendo consoles.
Here we’re referring to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, which were originally released in 2014 and 2017 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Aspyr experts, known for their porting, are now working on the Nintendo Switch 2 implementation.
Both games will be released on Japanese consoles in a bundle and will be available from September 30, 2026. Whoever succeeds will receive the Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Shadow of War Definitive Edition. Both games come with released story expansions and downloadable content. If you don’t want to buy a double pack, you can also buy both books individually.
Both Middle-earth games are open-world action games with standalone stories. These are not direct retellings of The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. Instead, its own story is about Mordor, Sauron, and a new protagonist waging war against the Dark Lord.
