The heads of several leading artificial intelligence companies spoke at a United Nations Security Council meeting to warn of the risks artificial intelligence poses to humanity and called on governments to work together to manage the rapidly evolving technology, write Reuters.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei pointed out that if not managed properly, artificial intelligence may pose a threat to the entire human race. “Despite all the differences that everyone in this room has, we must put them aside to confront this global threat we face. No leader, no company, no country can do it alone.” – he said.
As Reuters points out, the United States and China, the two leading countries in the development of artificial intelligence, have fundamentally different approaches to regulating artificial intelligence. President Donald Trump has said the United States does not need new artificial intelligence regulations, while China has introduced regulations on the use of AI algorithms and training materials, including requirements for clear labeling of AI-generated content.
OpenAI CEO Sam ultraman (Sam Altman) said that international cooperation is needed in the field of artificial intelligence. “To democratize artificial intelligence, critical decisions should not be made only in San Francisco labs. These decisions must be made through democratic processes and under the control of governments accountable to the people they serve.” – he emphasized.
Canadian scientist Yoshua Bengio, considered one of the godfathers of artificial intelligence, said the danger is real and inevitable. “The Security Council faces an unprecedented threat that none of its members chose, that no one can contain alone, and that does not respect the borders we defend.” – he said.
A day earlier, Trump told world leaders in a speech at the United Nations General Assembly that he rejected any attempts to develop a global plan to control artificial intelligence, calling the technology amazing and noting that the United States would proceed with caution.
The Security Council will meet in 2023 to discuss the risks associated with artificial intelligence.
