Bill Gates has issued a stark warning about the potential threats posed by advanced technology. He said modern neural networks have enough potential to trigger a series of massive events in the hands of an attacker that could destroy “billions of lives.” At the same time, the entrepreneur pointed out that this outcome is not inevitable, but requires great attention to safety.
Unlike some industry peers who have called for complete reliance on internal lab ethics, Gates insists on the need for external controls from states and law enforcement agencies, which should protect the industry from irreversible mistakes.
