A federal jury has issued a dramatic verdict in a long-running patent dispute, accusing an electronics maker of misusing another person’s design. The plaintiff is Taction Technology, which argued that Cupertino’s modern devices illegally use patented innovations that created the field of tactile feedback.
Representatives of the company called the compensation amount unreasonable and stressed that the design of the proprietary Taptic Engine mechanism was fundamentally different from the patented sample. It’s worth noting that the lawsuit went through multiple stages, including Apple’s successful dismissal of the lawsuit a few years ago, before an appeals court reinstated the proceedings.
Both sides are preparing for a new round of legal action, with the tech giant’s management aiming to defend its innocence in the Supreme Court. Fines of this magnitude rarely take effect without lengthy examination and review of the details of the case.
