Account losses due to third-party intervention are always shocking. This time, the attacker gained access to the Steam account, spent the entire balance on questionable in-game purchases, and played a competitive shooter and Torchlight Infinite. The profile owner reacted quickly, but not enough: he blocked the suspicious session, updated his password and contacted support.
Interestingly, the author of the game whose funds were leaked showed complete indifference and suggested that we take matters into our own hands with regard to platform management.
Nonetheless, Valve employees handled the issue in a professional manner. They checked the system logs, confirmed the hack, and returned all $30 to the victim’s wallet. Incidents like this once again demonstrate the benefits of double protection.
