Diablo IV: Seasonal support will continue after Diablo V launches

Blizzard Entertainment has refuted speculation that the release of Diablo V could mean the end of Diablo IV’s content supply. As game director Brent Gibson made clear in an interview with media representatives after BlizzCon 2026, the fourth installment in the action-RPG series will continue for multiple seasons even after the sequel is released. Blizzard’s release strategy is based on its historical treatment of its own catalog: both Diablo II and Diablo III have had regular season resets and specific content rotations over the years. Long-term support for Diablo IV should be based primarily on the community’s continued interest.

The leadership clarification comes after the official announcement of Diablo 5, which Blizzard plans to release in the spring of 2029. While Diablo IV’s final major story expansion has been completed with the Lords of Hatred expansion, this cut doesn’t mean game operations will be frozen.

Gibson said the development team remains committed to keeping the shelter viable. In addition to continuing the seasonal pattern cadence, the content of Part 4 is planned to increase significantly with the launch of new Amazon categories in the first half of 2027.

In terms of content, the studio will make a clear distinction between expanding existing ecosystems and developing next-generation ecosystems. While Diablo IV emphasized the established endgame loop and ongoing seasons, Diablo V makes a significant shift in narrative and mechanics.

The sequel places players in the realm of Diablo’s reign and reintroduces classic roots, such as an item and rune system based on Diablo II and altered inventory management. Still, the existing Diablo IV player base shouldn’t be forced to switch, but should be able to continue using the game as a parallel platform.

The insistence on side-by-side support highlights Blizzard’s shift toward a long-term services model across its franchise portfolio. A look at its predecessor illustrates the durability of this infrastructure: Diablo III will begin Season 40 in October 2026. As long as there is an active player base in Diablo IV’s rankings and instances, the studio hopes to maintain server infrastructure and seasonal content changes.
