A few years ago, OpenAI, with the help of ChatGPT, successfully popularized artificial intelligence chatbots and firmly established itself as a leader. However, the company now lags behind rivals in one of the fastest-growing areas: always-on consumer artificial intelligence agents. According to unconfirmed news, OpenAI is preparing such a product, and its name is Aeon.

OpenAI Aeon will be the answer to projects like Meta✴ Muse, SpaceXAI Grok Bot, OpenClaw, and more. The service has a chance of success, but to beat the competition, it must blend the best features of each platform: as practical as open source OpenClaw, as cheap and easy to use as Meta✴ meditation. There is a need to address serious security issues that emerged in OpenClaw and persist in Muse. OpenAI demonstrated the API capabilities of the AI agent as early as DevDay 2024, and released consumer products in 2025. But it wasn’t until OpenClaw came along that AI agents became actually useful. Since then, the race has accelerated, with OpenAI finding itself in a catching-up position.
Probably the biggest success to date has been Meta✴ Muse – The service has 600,000 daily active users in the United States alone. It provides integration with the Meta platform✴used by billions of people. Google Gemini Spark is also popular – it also works 24/7, is also aimed at mass consumers, and also works with a variety of enterprise and consumer Google products. Muse and Spark also support cooperation with third-party services.
In practice, they have solved problems such as filling out medical documents, canceling subscriptions, organizing group trips, booking leisure activities, making appointments with government agencies and paying bills. Although there are still serious problems with security: in addition to technical vulnerabilities, these may be errors related to the leakage of personal data – in one case, Muse gave his user address to a stranger.
Very little is currently known about OpenAI Aeon. However, the company hired OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger, who will apparently help with the project’s development. Last year, OpenAI launched a new SDK for the ChatGPT application, allowing controls from third-party services such as Zillow, Spotify, and Canva to work directly in the chatbot interface. The only question is how Aeon will compete with other developers’ cheap AI agents that offer deep integration with numerous services.
