It’s been nearly two years since the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro gaming console came out, and it no longer seems to be a scarce commodity. However, Sony has also encountered a global memory chip shortage, which has formed in the market due to the AI boom, and the upcoming release of GTX VI has triggered a sharp increase in demand for game consoles. Sony has decided to use a lottery system to filter PlayStation 5 Pro buyers in Japan due to a shortage of consoles.

This approach allows us to take on dealers and is not new. Sources said that in the official Sony store in the domestic market, game console buyers not only need to purchase a game console, but also need to have a local PSN account. Additionally, sweepstakes participants must have played at least 60 hours on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 within the past two years. Only if you meet all the above criteria you will be eligible to enter the draw to purchase a PlayStation 5 Pro.
Lottery applications will be accepted starting on October 7th, and console sales will begin on October 26th. If the number of applications to purchase a device at the suggested price exceeds supply, buyers will be randomly selected like a lottery. Selected applicants have until November 2 to complete the equipment purchase process.
Since the PlayStation 5 Pro has been on the market for nearly two years, one might assume that demand for the device is declining. In fact, however, there is now increased buyer interest, including in the upcoming release of GTA 6. Japanese gamers previously complained that foreign tourists were buying Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards. In this context, it seems quite logical to launch a lottery event that requires a Japanese PSN account to participate.
