It looks like one of the PlayStation 5’s most mysterious games isn’t completely forgotten. project abandoned After a few years of silence, the game from Blue Box Game Studios has reappeared: the game’s page on the PlayStation Store has been significantly updated, and the release year is now listed as 2027. Meanwhile, the developers have yet to make any official announcements on the project’s return, so it’s too early to consider the new date a finalized release date.
What is particularly noteworthy is that the updated page actually brings back the original concept of Abandoned. The description still states that the project is a first-person survival horror game with an emphasis on realism, and that the game itself should exist in three related forms: an instant experience, a separate prologue, and a mature base version. The prologue is described as a standalone game that is supposed to introduce players to events that occurred before the main project was released.

The page also features new images of the character not seen in previous material. This is particularly interesting because the original concept for Abandoned revolved around Jason Longfield. However, there is currently no information on whether the woman depicted is a full-blown heroine from the main game, a prologue character, or even part of a separate storyline. Therefore, it is not yet possible to directly connect it to Jason, nor to draw conclusions about the plot rework.
For “Abandoned”, this return is particularly unexpected from the perspective of its development history. The game debuted in 2021 as an ambitious PS5 horror game, blue box Promise to showcase proven material through a special live experience application. It should display trailers instantly, directly on the console, so players can experience the capabilities of the engine and graphics without traditional video compression.
In fact, the launch turned out to be one of the strangest events of the event. The app was transferred multiple times and after trying to launch it again, the developers encountered technical issues. When the update finally went live, players only received a very short clip rather than the full Abandoned demo – a few seconds of a person walking on a wooden floor. The rest of the app says trailers and gameplay demos will be coming later.

In early 2022, Blue Box claimed that work on the project was ongoing, but acknowledged issues with production plans and delayed further material. Meanwhile, the studio has separately denied rumors that the game has been canceled, stating that the live experience and game prologue are still in development. After this, Abandoned actually went on hiatus for several years.
Additional reminders about continuing work appear in March 2026. Users noticed that on the profile of Blue Box CEO Hassan Kahraman on PSN, one of the products was titled Abandoned: Gospel of Blood. Apparently, this could be an internal beta build, but no material, demo, or release date has emerged from this discovery. Subsequently, it remains unknown whether this name is related to the currently abandoned prologue.
After years of anticipation, Abandoned became famous not so much for what was shown, but for the theories surrounding the project. Shortly after the news was released, some players noticed similarities in the game silent Hillit was then suggested that Blue Box was allegedly the cover for Hideo Kojima’s new project. These theories were particularly motivated by associations with abolition. silent Hill At the same time as the PT trailer, Blue Box denied the involvement of Hideo Kojima, and the game designer himself has no connection with the project. Nonetheless, the discussion continued for a long time.
Now, those theories have apparently lost their relevance: Silent Hill is indeed returning as a new project, and Kojima is developing his own game. However, Abandoned itself is once again in the spotlight thanks to another unexpected update.

There is one more important detail that forces caution. on the official website blue box game studio Abandoned is still listed as a project with an uncertain release date – TBD, and there’s no new news about the game in the studio’s news section. As such, 2027 exists primarily in the form of current PlayStation Store information rather than an official announcement from the developer.
It remains to be seen whether there’s any real evidence now that Abandoned has indeed resumed active development. If Blue Box finally reveals a full prologue, a new trailer, or even live gameplay, the project’s long history could take a whole new turn. In the meantime, the store update is just the clearest sign in a long time that Abandoned’s story may not be over yet.
