Tower of Agathabah hasn’t received an update in almost a year, and on September 29, the developers finally explained what’s been going on with the game all this time. As it turned out, the reason was very simple: the team went from about 20-25 people to 5 developers working part-time on the project.
Nonetheless, Update 12 is still in development. The main innovation will be a new building system with connecting elements. It will affect wood, stone, and stick structures, and restrictions on object placement will be significantly relaxed. In other words, settlement construction should become more liberal.
The second major part of the update is the redesign of bioartificial intelligence. The developers hope to improve their behavior, spawn location, and reaction to player actions. In the future, some creatures will only appear at certain times of the day, while nighttime encounters with blighters will become more common.
The game loop itself will also change. A mild hunger system will appear, and level zero friendliness will become more dangerous: interactions with nature will start to take a toll on players. At the same time, they will speed up plant growth, add markers to the map, rebalance weapons and armor, improve the Shimuscope and expand the merchant request system.
The release date for Update 12 has not yet been announced. The developer promises to complete the work first and test the update on PC and PS5. After nearly a year of silence, this is perhaps the most important message of all: Tower of Agathabah has not been abandoned, but its further development is now being carried out by a much smaller team.
