Developers from the Project Aces team explained an unpleasant fact to fans during Ace Combat 8 Information Bureau’s final livestream: the modern port of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War cannot be released as a standalone game due to the expiration of the licensing agreement with the manufacturer of the real fighter jet.
Since contracts for the use of military equipment have strict legal frameworks and validity periods, studios can only distribute retro versions under strictly specified conditions.
That’s why this port is only available as a bonus for pre-ordering Ace Combat 8: Wings of Tavy – just like the classic fifth installment was a one-off release. Meanwhile, PC players will have to deal with unpleasant compromises, such as a lack of achievements and the need to download the entire 120 GB client of new games for the sake of old classics.
