Samsung’s foundry customer base is now about three times what it was when the unit was spun off in 2017. The company expects to continue growing by shifting from primarily mobile chips to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing solutions. HPC’s share of revenue has grown from 5% to 28%, and Samsung expects this figure to reach 66% by 2029.

Commentators in Taiwan, however, were less than enthusiastic about the prediction. The discussion included questions about whether Qualcomm would continue to work with Samsung, as well as comments from the company that have made such statements for years. Some users specifically criticized Samsung’s wafer yields and recalled TSMC’s foundry dominance.
At the same time, Samsung is preparing for the next technological steps: the third-generation 2-nanometer chip is planned to be mass-produced in 2028, and the 1.4-nanometer process is planned to be mass-produced in 2029. The company’s first plant in Tyler, Texas, is expected to begin initial operations in late 2026.
