Steam, the PC gaming platform run by Valve, is facing its strongest sales year in the company’s history. Current market analysis by industry observer Alinea Analytics shows that the platform’s total revenue is expected to exceed the $20 billion mark in 2026. The forecast is driven by the all-time record set in September, further accelerating the ecosystem’s steady growth. The figures underscore Steam’s prominence in the global PC market, with the platform benefiting from high-profile new releases and extremely steady demand for older games, unlike console-based ecosystems.

Detailed research by Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, shows high sales momentum for individual publications in September. Tactical shooter Wardogs became the top-grossing game on Steam this month, with estimated revenue of $86.9 million.

Although the game topped sales charts in late summer, analysis highlights that the hype cycle and viral effect are more durable for similar games like Helldivers 2 and Arc Raiders. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 made $130 million on the platform (26.5% more than Wardogs), while Arc Raiders brought in about $125 million (21.2% more than Wardogs).

In addition to War Dogs, other well-known games also contributed to September’s box office record: Capcom’s action game Onimusha: Kendo with $30.4 million, role-playing game Blood of the Dawn Walker with $26.9 million, followed by Bodycam with $24.2 million and EA Sports with $20.7 million.

Strong individual results are part of continued quarterly development. The third quarter of 2026 was the most successful third quarter in the platform’s history, with sales reaching $5.5 billion, a 12% increase over the same period last year. Combining revenue from the first six months, Steam increased its interim results for the first three quarters to $16.5 billion from $14.5 billion in 2025.

In view of the upcoming new products and the high-volume autumn and winter discount activities in the fourth quarter, analysts believe that it is certain to exceed the US$20 billion mark in 2026. These figures underscore Valve’s special position in the global games market: While competing console platforms rely heavily on short release windows, and the Epic Games Store continues to struggle for profitability, Steam benefits equally from high-profile new releases and extremely reliable monetization of past games.
