Fable will be released on February 23, 2027 from Playground Games. The developer has already shown off plenty of gameplay for the project, and again recently at Xbox FanFest, where players have given rave reviews to the action-RPG, noting how well it performs on Xbox Series X.
as part of a magazine interview edge Developers talk about the features of Fable’s combat system. According to them, combat in the series published by Lionhead Studios is easy to pick up, but not without depth. In the new Fable, the studio decided to keep that in mind, so you shouldn’t expect Dark Souls-style gameplay, but the combat system itself is well thought out. Developers Will Kennedy and Craig Littler talked about several interesting features in the game in an interview:
- Arrows can target specific parts of an enemy’s body. If an undead hollow enemy is hit in the leg by an arrow, it will fall to the ground and begin crawling toward the player.
- Enemies can be beheaded. For example, if you deprive a “hollow” of its head, it becomes disoriented and doesn’t know where to move. If you decapitate a ranged enemy, he will continue to fire in all directions.
- There is a spell in the game that turns enemies into chickens. If used on undead, the enemy will turn into a skeletal chicken.
- Another interesting feature is what Fireball does. Spread it on regular chicken and you get fried chicken.
Playground Games also stated that some tasks in the game can be completed without combat, using dialogue options or character reputation. There are also missions that emphasize exploration and combat, which means you shouldn’t think that Fable is always about combat.
Fable is planned to release on Xbox Series X | S, Playstation 5 and PC, as well as directly on Game Pass.
