As a reminder, Stronghold 4 was officially unveiled last summer and was preparing to launch on Steam Early Access throughout the remainder of 2026. The plan has not changed since then.
As it became known, early access of Stronghold 4 will start on December 7, 2026 exclusively in Steam. The announcement was accompanied by a 12-minute video with a story about personalizing locks and the release of a new demo version.
The trial edition includes a sandbox mode on the largest map in the history of the series, a new unit (captain) for the later stages of the game, and another defensive tool (moat). Already on October 19, the demo will feature “1 vs. 1” and “1 vs. 3” battle modes.
Stronghold 4 is positioned as a plot prequel to the series (events will unfold before the very first part) and a return to the roots – medieval England, a detailed simulation of castle life, realism and a unique atmosphere.
At the center of the story is a simple shepherd Penryn from Wetel, whose measured life collapses overnight. Players will have to set out to meet their destiny, unlock the potential of a humble peasant and lead him to a knighthood.
At the start of early access, Stronghold 4 will offer a campaign of 22 missions, free construction, a skirmish mode with eight unique AI opponents, a selection of combat scenarios, graphics on Unreal Engine 5 and translation into Russian.
