HateAid’s appeal cited possible breaches of telecommunications, digital services and data protection laws, while selling the glasses itself was cited as a potential criminal offense due to the possibility of hidden filming. HateAid is asking for restrictions on where recordings are allowed, with rules similar to those required for dash cams and body cameras. According to news enjetcomplaints affect not only Meta✴as well as its partners Ray-Ban and Oakley, as well as multiple retailers.

In response, Meta representatives responded✴ tell publications American politicianthe glasses were originally designed with privacy protections that go beyond smartphones. During the recording process, the LED on the body will flash, and if the built-in software detects an attempt to hide the indicator light (such as using electrical tape), it will turn off the camera. However, there are third-party accessories on the market that allow you to turn off this signal without triggering the protection. That way, others may not only not notice the filming, but even know there’s a camera mounted inside a seemingly ordinary frame.

Processing the collected material also raised other questions. Typically, photos and videos remain on the owner’s device until cloud storage or file transfer is enabled, but when accessing Meta✴ AI information about the environment is sent to the meta server✴. Some of these materials are reviewed by third-party contractors for AI training.

Previously, 3DNews reported that experts working in Kenya discovered records including videos taken in bathrooms, images of bank card numbers and other private information. Concerns mount after Meta✴ Hidden code and components of the experimental NameTag facial recognition system removed from the Meta mobile app✴ AI.
