CD Projekt Red has once again cut its workforce on long-announced multiplayer project Sirius. A total of 18 employees withdrew from the competition. Nine of them will leave the company and the remainder will be assigned to other projects.
The multiplayer game plan, codenamed “Project Sirius” based on the “Witcher” universe, has not yet stopped. Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed to professional media that the development team has been reduced again.
A total of 18 people withdrew from the project. While nine employees were laid off, the other nine were given the opportunity to apply internally for positions on other group projects such as The Witcher 4 or the sequel to Cyberpunk.
In an official statement, CD Projekt Red justified this measure by making strategic adjustments to the project: the team size has been adjusted to meet the requirements of the current development stage. The nine layoffs include four jobs at the Boston facility (formerly The Molasses Flood) and five at the Warsaw headquarters.
According to the May 2026 financial report, 83 developers were recently involved in Project Sirius, which means the team has now shrunk to around 65 people. The Sirius Project looks back on a magnificent development history. The game was originally released in 2021 in partnership with acquired studio The Molasses Flood, and aims to combine single-player and multiplayer elements from the Witcher universe. However, in the spring of 2023, CD Projekt Red stopped previous development, re-evaluated the concept, and started the project from scratch with a changed framework, which resulted in the first layoffs at the time.
Despite the reduced team size, there is no sign that the project will stop. The team has recently expanded its team, hiring experienced industry leaders such as former Destiny 2 writer Kwan Perng as lead writer. It’s unclear when official disclosures or exact details about Project Sirius will be released.
