The developers at Kuro Games began a massive technical overhaul of Howling Waves and decided to take a radical step – translating the project into a completely new programming language. The goal behind such a radical intervention in the game is to permanently eliminate microfreezes and achieve stable framerates across all supported platforms.
How have players changed?
- The updated client has been studied by participants in a special preview test on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

- In the main menu interface. First Performance Measurements: Bloggers and Testers (especially EnthusiastsBulliGMV
) has shared impressive numbers. Using a Core i9-14900HX mobile processor and an RTX 5060 graphics card in a heavily loaded college location, frame rates jumped from a dropped 40 to a solid 65-70 FPS. A similar increase is evident during dynamic bike rides – the game no longer drops frames when rapidly rendering the world.
If the studio’s experiment is successful and the new architecture is released to a wider audience, the update will be one of the biggest technological leaps in the history of the project, which has suffered from chronic optimization issues since its release.
