Japanese development studio FromSoftware is enjoying great success ahead of the release of its upcoming multiplayer project Duskblood. As producer Yasuhiro Kitao accidentally revealed during a live broadcast in Famitsu magazine, the number of registrations for the game’s closed network test exceeded that of the multi-platform game Elden Ring: Nightreign. Despite being exclusively tied to a single console, player response has been surprisingly high.
This result even surprised the person in charge of FromSoftware. While Elden Ring: Nightreign released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and thus has a massive hardware base, Duskblood is only available for Nintendo Switch 2.
While the new Nintendo console’s installed base is naturally smaller than the existing platforms combined, more fans got a spot in the closed beta phase. However, producer Yasuhiro Kitao admitted that the success of the test registration does not mean that The Duskbloods will achieve higher sales than Nightreign at launch. Still, the huge interest is seen as a very positive sign for the team.
Duskbloods is a PvEvP focused multiplayer game set in a dark world inspired by vampire mythology. The work is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who plays an experimental role in the studio’s work. Players take on the role of so-called “Bloodsworn” and teams of up to eight people compete to plunder valuable resources and survive against groups of enemy creatures and other players.
Despite the focus on multiplayer combat, studio management has repeatedly emphasized that FromSoftware will continue to stick to a classic, story-focused single-player experience. The success of this online test marks that the development of “Twilight Blood” has entered an important stage. Community feedback during the beta phase will now be used to make balance adjustments and optimize server infrastructure in preparation for the upcoming release.
After the positive feedback, the studio is entering the final stages of completion and strengthening. A specific release date for the Switch 2 exclusive will be announced later this year.
