A Japanese writer who goes by the pseudonym Manno has clearly proven that creating independent comics for an adult audience can bring in more money than a standard office job. The 29-year-old artist’s series “Hot Girls Love Otakus” has sold more than a million copies, earning him enough money to quit his day job and fulfill his long-held dream of owning his own Ferrari.

His franchise was so popular that the project received an official animated adaptation (in the hentai format, of course). Now, the author has opened his own YouTube channel to share professional painting skills and luxurious lifestyle through an anonymous virtual image. Market experts point out that in the Japanese doujinshi space, successful independent authors of adult content often earn much more than manga artists who have strict contracts with large publishers because they retain full copyright and all sales profits.
