Capcom announced a new action platformer, Mega Man: Dual Override, at the opening of Gamescom 2026. Alongside this news, the developers also released a trailer showcasing new mechanics, bosses, and a second playable character.
One of the biggest surprises in Mega Man: Double Cover is Proto-Man, who will join Mega Man as a full-fledged playable character for the first time in the game. He will have his own abilities, so playing as two heroes will provide different gameplay options.
The game will feature a new overlay system. It temporarily allows the robot to exceed its normal limits and gain additional strength. However, after the buff ends, the character will temporarily lose some of its effectiveness. Players must choose the right moment to activate an ability and consider the consequences of using it.
Another new element will be a custom chip system. Mega Man and Proto-Man will be able to install additional mods to alter their abilities. Options shown include a rapid rate of fire, protective energy bubbles, and the ability to hover in the air. Combining chips will allow you to adapt your character to different play styles.
The trailer introduces one of the eight new robot overlords. Shiny Girl wields pyrotechnic-themed weapons and attacks her opponents with bright flaming projectiles. After defeating the robot overlords, players will be able to gain access to their abilities and convert them into special weapons. Special weapons still cost energy, so you won’t be able to use them unlimitedly. The video shows off one of the new attacks, which unleashes a powerful charged attack that can also be used as an aerial dash. Finally, eagle-eyed viewers spotted a robot similar to Astro Boy from “Mega Man 8.” However, Capcom has yet to confirm the return of other classic robot overlords.
Mega Man: Dual Override will be released on PC in 2027 (steamEpic Games Store and Microsoft Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
