The Garmin fēnix 9 Pro model is the first in the range to feature a titanium case – it’s made using nanoforming technology, where metal is combined with plastic, thus significantly reducing the size and weight of the case without sacrificing strength. The device is available in three body sizes of 43, 47 and 51 mm, with the latter having an AMOLED screen size of 1.5 inches (about 15% larger than the previous model) and a brightness of up to 3000 cd/m².
In addition to twice the brightness of the display, the basic fēnix 9 and older 9 Pro also have sapphire glass protection, sealed buttons and 40 m of water resistance. Performance has been improved thanks to the increased amount of RAM and an upgraded map engine – moving around the map is 30% faster, and support for perspective mode has appeared. The built-in storage capacity is 64 GB, so you can double the number of loaded maps and load up to 7000 audio files.
To keep you safe in the wild, Garmin offers inReach satellite connectivity and optional LTE connectivity so you can use voice, text messaging and interactive SOS even without your smartphone. In addition to white and red, the built-in flashlight also supports green light. The app adds Garmin Epic’s Garmin Connect storytelling feature – combining multi-leg workouts, backpacking trips and multi-day races into chronological stories you can share. The training function has been expanded, endurance indicators have been updated, and real-time management has been supported; the range of forced marches has been expanded through dynamic tracking of backpack weight; performance goals have been supported and integrated with GORUCK workouts.
Garmin fēnix 9 Pro Solar
The base 51mm Garmin fenix 9 model lasts up to 29 days in smartwatch mode, the older fenix 9 Pro lasts up to 31 days, and there’s a Pro configuration with solar charging and resources for up to 57 days. The basic Garmin fēnix 9 starts at $999.99; the top-of-the-line fēnix 9 Pro is priced at $1,099.99.
