As part of Gamescom’s opening night live, publisher NetEase Games and Chinese development studio Naked Rain have announced the official global release date for high-profile open world project Ananta. The game was previously tentatively titled Project Mugen and will launch on January 15, 2027. In addition to the PC (via Steam and its own launcher) and PlayStation 5 platforms, the development team also provides services for the mobile operating systems iOS and Android. At the same time as the date was announced, an official pre-registration phase began on the game’s website, where the community can claim the first batch of digital rewards that will be released later.
In Ananta, you’ll find yourself in the sprawling futuristic metropolis of Nova City, plagued by numerous supernatural phenomena, so-called anomalies. This action RPG blends the detailed aesthetics of anime with the freedom of an urban open-world game. You take on the role of an investigator, working with a colorful cast of companions to uncover the city’s secrets, collect items and fight threatening entities in combat.
The core element of Ananta is the dynamic transportation system in the urban jungle. To move from point A to point B in Nova City, you can use a variety of parkour mechanics inspired by well-known character models like Spider-Man. You can climb high-rise buildings, use a grappling hook to swing through urban canyons, or drive vehicles like motorcycles and cars through the streets. The environment offers numerous interactive options and walk-in interior spaces.
The combat system relies on fast, instant combat, and you can switch smoothly between the various members of your four-person party. Each character has unique skills, weapons, and elemental powers that can be linked together in battle to create powerful combinations. The social aspect also plays an important role: in addition to combat, you can also engage in leisure activities in the city, visit bars and expand your connections with other characters.
The free-to-play game is aimed at fans of stylized action RPGs and now has a global registration page for interested players. By reaching certain pre-registration milestones, all participants will unlock additional in-game currency and customization items when the event officially launches in January 2027.
