Studio Nekki showed off new gameplay footage for its single-player action game SPINE during a Future Games Show livestream, and has finally decided on a release window. The game will be released on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in summer 2027, with a Switch 2 release planned for later.
The game takes place in Tensor City, a technological metropolis built by artificial intelligence after a global environmental collapse. The society is governed by a strict social hierarchy that divides residents into those from the gleaming Upper Town and the slums of the Old Town. The protagonist is street artist Red Lane, who, after a failed attack by the Mafia and the kidnapping of her brother, gives herself a sentient combat implant spine and challenges the dictatorship of artificial intelligence.
The combat system features a combination of hand-to-hand combat and close-range shooting, meticulously designed by professional action movie stuntmen and animated using its own Cascadeur engine.
