Xiaomi has announced the global version of its new Redmi Note 17 series of smartphones. They are slightly different from the Note 17 models launched in China, which will be released in the Indian market soon. The news concerns the Redmi Note 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models, but the company has also launched global variants of the Redmi Note 17 5G and 4G.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the successors to the Redmi Note 15 Pro and 15 Pro+ launched late last year. Both feature 6.83-inch OLED displays, and this year also feature larger batteries and faster charging. Both devices are powered by Snapdragon 6 series processors. However, the 20-megapixel cameras of past generations are no more.

Redmi Note 17 Pro is equipped with an 8340mAh silicon carbon battery, which is significantly improved than the Note 15 Pro’s 6580mAh battery. Xiaomi says the Note 17 Pro can play videos for 28 hours on a single charge. The increased capacity is combined with a faster 67W HyperCharge charging system (up from 45W) to charge the battery to 50% in 34 minutes. The device also supports 22.5W reverse charging, so you can use it to charge other gadgets.
The OLED screen of the Redmi Note 17 Pro supports a resolution of 2772×1280 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The display shows 12-bit color with a brightness of 3500 cd/m22. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Overall, it has the same display as the Note 15 Pro, with just a slight increase in brightness.
The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor, which replaces the Dimensity 7400 Ultra in the previous model. The device is available in 6, 8 and 12 GB LPPDR4X RAM and 128, 256 and 512 GB permanent memory configurations. The 128 GB base version comes with USF 2.2 memory, while the other versions come with the faster UFS 3.1.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max model has the same dimensions as the Note 17 Pro. The “Max” in the name means a larger capacity 9210 mAh battery, 16% of which is silicon. According to official data, the phone can play videos for 37 hours, play games for up to 19 hours, and record videos for up to 13 hours on a single charge. That’s a significant improvement over the 15 Note Pro+’s 6,500mAh battery.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max model supports the same 100-watt HyperCharge charging technology as the Note 15 Pro+. Xiaomi claims that the device can be charged for a full day in just 20 minutes. The smartphone also supports 27W reverse charging.
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max uses the same 6.83-inch OLED display as Note 17 Pro. However, it comes with a more advanced Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset. The chip is manufactured based on TSMC’s 4nm process technology, not Samsung’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. However, both processors come with the same core configuration: four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55. But Gen 5 has a slight advantage in clock speed. It also comes with the slightly more powerful Adreno 812 GPU instead of the Adreno 710.
The display of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Both smartphones are rated IP66 (water spray) and IP68 (immersion). However, there is no IP69K rating this time. Xiaomi claims superior water resistance, saying the phones can last up to 72 hours underwater to a depth of 3m, while the Note 15 Pro model can last up to 24 hours at a depth of 2m. Despite different battery capacities, the two devices weigh roughly the same – 223 grams for the Pro model and 225 grams for the Pro Max model. Their thickness is also the same – 8.6 mm.
The smartphones come with stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos. However, the Note 17 Pro Max’s volume is increased by 400%, while the Note 17 Pro’s volume is increased by 300%. These devices do not have 3.5mm audio output. The Pro Max model supports Bluetooth 6.0, and the Pro model supports Bluetooth 5.1. The Note 17 Pro Max has better connectivity overall and supports Wi-Fi 6, while the Note 17 Pro supports Wi-Fi 5. Both phones support NFC and dual-SIM cards, and have eSIM functionality.
Another great thing about the Note 17 Pro Max is its camera. Both devices feature a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. However, compared to the Note 17 Pro’s 0.6μm, the Note 17 Pro Max uses a larger main sensor with 0.8μm pixels and a brighter f/1.5 aperture (compared to f/1.8). It is also equipped with a 32-megapixel selfie camera (f/2.2 lens, 4K video). The Note 17 Pro model features a 16-megapixel front camera (f/2.4 optics).
Both phones run Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 operating system and will receive six years of security updates. The company will announce the price and launch date of the Note 17 Pro Max and Note 17 Pro global versions later.
