ArenaNet talks about the third playable race in Guild Wars 3, the Asuras. Their appearance is markedly different from the racial representation in previous projects, but they still possess a sense of curiosity and a thirst for new discoveries. In “Guild Wars 3”, the Asura race will be significantly different from previous games in the series
Although the Asuras are an underground people, their civilization already maintains a balanced relationship with the surface when the events of Guild Wars 3 begin. Asuras of this era were slightly taller, although still shorter than humans, covered in thicker fur, and generally a little rougher than what fans of the series are used to seeing.
One of the first asuras to meet Orr was the engineer Zul and her granddaughter Noimi. On their next trip to the surface, they witness a powerful eruption of magic that lights up the horizon. Impressed by what they saw, they established Rata Pten, a land base that would become the starting point for Tyria’s most ambitious asura expedition.
The journey to Aure was long and difficult, and problems continued upon arrival. Expeditions encountered disease, shortages, and dangerous local fauna, and the Asuras’ desire to explore new lands often led to conflicts with their inhabitants and defenders. Over time, the Vaal Knights opened their ranks to all, including Asuras, and some members of the race joined the Vaal Guard, learning their knowledge and the art of crafting powerful weapons.
When Guild Wars 3 begins, the descendants of the participants of the First Expedition have settled throughout Orr, and contact with other civilizations of the Assur civilization deep in Tyria is maintained through the Ratapten. At the same time, even Asura, who had previously been skeptical of surface exploration, increasingly felt that changes were coming that might forever change the fate of the entire race.
