Dong-ki Lee, chief technical officer of Shift Up, believes that the impact of “Star Blade” and “P’s Lie” on the Korean game industry is roughly the same as the impact of “Black Myth: Wukong” on the Chinese game industry.
According to Lee, the emergence of successful Korean console games has encouraged other studios to try more ambitious projects. He pointed out that Starblade and Lies of P actually showed a new path for developers, and now the industry is further influenced by Crimson Desert. As a result, companies begin to compete and incentivize each other, which, according to a Shift Up representative, is good for the market.
Stellar Blade has sold millions of copies and spawned a sequel along with Lies of P . The success of the program has also allowed Shift Up to develop new AAA games, including Project Spirits, which the studio plans to launch before the end of the year. Meanwhile, the company continues to develop Action Victory: Nikke, a game that remains one of its main sources of revenue.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is especially important for Shift Up. Stellar Blade is getting ready for release on a new console, and the team hopes to transfer the experience gained from developing the PlayStation 5 and PC versions to the new console. The port will be revealed for the first time at the 2026 Tokyo Game Show in September.
