Microsoft has launched its long-awaited physical disc-to-digital licensing conversion program for Xbox Insiders in the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings.
This new feature allows owners of Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles to automatically receive a digital copy of their game once it is fully installed and launched on compatible hardware. Once rights are unlocked, the physical media can be shelved or given to a friend, but in the latter case the digital license will revert to the disc’s new owner.
The program has supported hundreds of projects, including even discontinued games like Deadpool, although some major publishers have not participated so far. It is expected that once testing is complete, this innovative technology will be available to all console owners with disc drives.
