Some users have complained about the GeForce Game Ready 616.56 driver released by Nvidia on August 26. After installing the update, some users have experienced intermittent screen flickering, intermittent black screens, brightness changes, and color distortion. Nvidia has acknowledged the problem and said it is already working on a fix.

The above issues have been present in several generations of GeForce graphics cards. Users of the GTX 16, RTX 30, RTX 40 and RTX 50 series graphics cards have complained about this. Specifically, users encountered these issues while browsing the web, scrolling, or playing videos in Chromium-based applications. Some users reported that rolling back to driver version 610.88 resolved the issue.

A user tested the new Nvidia driver using multiple monitors and noticed intermittent screen flickering when using 8-bit color output. However, switching to 10-bit color output eliminated this flickering. Enabling Windows automatic color management can also help resolve this issue.

Other users reported that after installing driver version 616.56, they did not experience any of the above issues. However, the workaround of using 10-bit color depth on the monitor provides victims with another option before rolling back the driver. Users with compatible monitors can switch to 10-bit color display in the Nvidia application settings or through the Nvidia Control Panel. However, it should be noted that some monitors require a lower refresh rate when changing color depth, as the connection bandwidth may not be sufficient to accommodate the existing resolution and refresh rate at higher color depths.

Nvidia is aware of user complaints regarding driver 616.56. Nvidia’s Manuel Guzman responded in an official post on the company’s forum dedicated to the GeForce 616.56 driver that experts are already testing fixes. The exact release date for this fix has not yet been announced.
